It's about a boy and a large (very round) and very red balloon that roam the streets of Paris. In all of its 37 minutes, it's pure happiness and sunshine for the most part. Director Albert Lamorisse cast his own little boy, Pascal, to be the poster child and star as the balloon's companion. I would say the balloon was the boy's companion, but at most times it seems like the balloon is more desperate to be with him. It sweetly follows him around, floating through windows to be with him, rising and falling, taunting. There's clearly a wire somewhere that someone is controlling the balloon, but thing is, that wire is never seen. I never really knew how on earth the balloon managed to move in perfect time with the Pascal.
Stick around for the end. It's totally worth seeing a million balloons fly around all over the tops of Paris buildings.
